Announcing The Austin Midwife Collective; A Home Birth Resource Center

imagejpeg_1 With the signed lease in hand we’re officially ready to announce the birth of a new project! For the past three months a group of six local midwives have been gestating The Austin Midwife Collective; A Home Birth Resource Center. These  midwives (five independent home birth practices) Debra Day and Monika Stone (Heart of Texas Midwives), June Lamphier (Family-Centered Midwifery), Kate Griffin (Kate Griffin Midwife), Genevieve Schaefer (Sisters Midwifery) and myself, Mandy Toavs (Heirloom Midwifery PLLC) will continue to practice independently and will still offer the individualized home birth services that the community has come to love and know. We look forward to the opportunity to increase collaboration between experienced midwives which will ultimately benefit our clients as well.

The larger office space benefits our clients in that they will have a one-stop-shop here. They can find their midwife, discover and build their community around birth and parenting and otherwise find support through the childbearing years. The Austin Midwife Collective will be the new home of The Austin Home Birth Meetup, a multitude of childbirth education classes, Bodywork for the Childbearing Year, postpartum support groups, yoga, meet the midwife events and much more.

This new office is located in East-Central Austin at the corner of Airport Blvd and E 38 1/2 Street within a building called Creekside Center. We are just minutes from downtown and I-35 and across from the Mueller development. We’ve finished the new build-out of the space which included three exam rooms and a 400 sq ft common area/classroom space. We’re currently putting the finishing touches on the set up and decoration.
