What I Love About Midwifery Care- It “prepares you for child birth like nothing else ever could”

Here is another client’s thoughts on midwifery care. She touches on a lot of things that are important to the Midwives Model of Care like -

  • Monitoring the psychological and social well-being of the mother in addition to the physical aspects of care.
  • Providing the mother with individualized education, counseling, and prenatal care, as well as postpartum support.

This is what Chris had to say about her experiences during this important time in a woman’s life:

What I love about midwifery care?  So many things!

My favorite thing about it is how personal it is. When I began my care, I didn’t know what to expect, but I never imagined I would gain a life-long friend out of it. The love and trust built more and more with each appointment.

I think one of the reasons this is possible is because the appointments are long and not rushed, like with typical physicians appointments. Our midwife really took the time to get to know our little family. Her full attention was on us at all times, and you could tell that she was genuinely interested in what we had to say. This made us feel comfortable with her instantly, and we always felt we could ask her anything. We would always look forward to seeing her for our appointments.

I also think that midwifery care prepares you for child birth like nothing else ever could. Our midwife helped us to get comfortable with the idea of child birth and having a new baby in the house. I don’t ever remember being frightened of anything, because I knew she would be there for us if we needed anything. I trusted that she would do everything she could to make sure everything was okay.

The actual birth itself was amazing. Looking back, I can’t imagine doing it any other way. Being at home made the experience even that more personal. I liked knowing that it was just us and our midwife. No strange nurses or doctors that we’d never met hovering over us, trying to do unnecessary IV’s and monitoring every single move. It was peaceful and beautiful the entire time.

After the birth, she was so great with our new little baby. She gave us our time alone with him. And instead of taking him away for tests and weighing, she did it right there one the bed with us.

The appointments after the birth were great, too. She even did a couple of home visits, which was so nice. It was great to not have to go anywhere when I wasn’t feeling 100% yet. It was also nice not having to take the baby out of the house for a while. After our final appointment, we were so sad to see it come to an end. But like I said before, our midwife will forever be a part of our lives, and we continue to try to see her when we can.

I seriously can’t really put into words how great my experience with midwifery care was/is. It’s such an beautiful experience…I wish that more women would choose this as their birthing option, so they could also experience how wonderful it is!
